Top British Anti-Terror Officer Resigns After Blunder

"Britain's top counterterrorism officer resigned from London's Metropolitan Police on Thursday — one day after a security blunder forced police to move up a major operation in northern England."

Does anyone else find it a little bizarre that the London Metropolitan Police is in charge of Britain's anti-terror operations? I think it is freaky enough that the New York Police Department has a foreign intelligence wing.

The best of the best are going to be in London. It's just the way it is, Ray. And more importantly, the money is going to be funneled, in some way, through London.

Regarding New York, we're our own country.
Different history, different system of government. The UK doesn't have the same separation of powers and responsibilities that we do. Everything I've read suggests a much flatter system.

NYPD, on the other hand, is a bunch of armed thugs. (Ask anyone that even got near the RNC protesters.) It's no surprise they're too big for their britches.
I highly doubt armed thugs have a fucking thing to do with foreign intelligence dealings.

Have you ever been in the middle of a New York protest? I am every fucking day. I work next to the UN, and I have to deal with the Palestinians, the Jews, the Falun Gong people, you name it. Bush drives by, Obama drives by, fucking Palin drives by. The NYPD cops I see are total pros.

The RNC protests were completely fucking insane. I was here, and I was in the middle of some of them, as were a bunch of other people I know. I realize you have an axe to grind, and I dig the axe being ground, but you're taking the mere invocation of the NYPD as an excuse to lobby with generalizations based on extreme anecdotes.

How fortunate, they didn't grab you up in the middle of it.

I always loved this bit: "There were also sandwiches that had a single slice of what I was later told was rancid bologna - it made me sick even looking at them. There were two "soy" sandwiches for our entire group. Later I heard that people who asked for soy were given bologna instead. Anyone who was vegetarian or vegan really didn't make out too well."

Real professional.
